Law Clerk & Legal Professional Shaian Mohammadi participates in many organizations that promote the welfare of people who members of low-income communities. An alumnus of California Western School of Law, Shaian Mohammadi was a clinical law clerk for California Western’s Community Law Project (CLP), which was featured in a San Diego Lawyer Magazine article.

As the head of California Western School of Law, Dean Niels Schaumann, wrote the article, “Immigration Case Backlog Reaches Crisis, Call for Pro Bono Assistance.” The subtitle, “How a local law school clinic is assisting San Diegans,” refers to the free legal services provided by the attorneys, law students, and other volunteers at CLP.

Schaumann’s article states there are roughly 595,000 pending immigration cases in the United States (data cited from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University). CLP is able to provide pro bono legal work through donations and grants from foundations to assist over 1,000 individuals each year. Some immigration clients are at risk of deportation and CLP’s legal experts refer their cases to experienced immigration attorneys to help delay or avoid deportation. Now more than ever we need legal professionals to commit to providing services to those that need it the most as we come out of a global pandemic.
